When you play football, it is hard to tell whether you will be able to finish the game without getting some injuries. Here are some common football injuries. 1. Neck. There are a lot of injuries that can take place on a football player's neck. We cannot deny it that in some football positions some players have to crane their necks more often than the rest. Keep in mind that the neck is not elastic so if too much craning takes place the muscles will get stretched and the player might experience some pain. The quarterbacks are the usual players that suffer most from neck injuries simply because they have to stretch their necks in order to be able to see what's ahead. They also do this so that they will be able to avoid any obstacle that might come in between them and the goal. 2. Cervical Spine. Your spinal column stretches from the base of your skull down towards your buttocks. The cervical spine is the part of the spinal column that supports the neck. Football injuries also occur in this area simply because football players don't only crane their necks they also have to tuck it in when they charge for a tackle. In addition, a football player can always land on his head while avoiding an obstacle. If the landing is not good, he can end up with a cervical spine injury. If a spinal cord injury takes place in this area, that particular football player can end up paralyzed from his neck down. 3. Head and Face. The helmets are designed to protect a football player but then again during the course of the game, there is always a risk that the helmet can get loosened or dislodged making the player vulnerable for head injuries as well as facial injuries. A hard tackle can result to a football player landing on his head and if his helmet is loosened then he might end up with an injury. A broken nose and a black eye are common football related facial injuries. This usually happens if the helmet is dislodged or poorly fitted. 4. Knees. Because football is a physical game it is understandable that your body will get a whole lot of beating from all the running, tackling and dodging. These moves can put on a lot of stress on a football player's knees. He may not feel it at first, but eventually his knees will give way and he will end up with a form of knee injury. The knee can get dislocated or it can get inflamed. With such conditions it would be very hard for a football player to play in the game. 5. Shoulders. Football is not all about tackling and running. You also have to reach up in order to catch that ball and you might also have to stretch your arms while on the ground. Such activities can take its toll on your shoulders. Like the knees, if the shoulders are constantly subjected to stress, it will eventually give way. The shoulder, simply because it is a joint, can get dislocated and swollen. A sprain or strain can also take place on the shoulder and other joints in the body. |
